iMatchup.com Survey Reveals More than Eighty Percent of American Men and Women Find Love Despite Differing Political Views

July 26, 2004 (Pearl River, New York) —With the upcoming elections, most people are thinking about politics. So, can a romantic relationship between people with vastly different political views be harmonious? According to recent study conducted by iMatchup.com, the answer is a resounding, “Yes!” Over eighty percent of Americans polled will date—and even marry—someone with a different political outlook than their own.

Singles were also asked: Do you prefer dating someone from your own political party? An overwhelming 81% of the more than 2,000 respondents said they did not care about the political affiliation of potential dates, and only 16% do prefer to date someone from their political party.

The survey, conducted online, interviewed men and women between the ages of 25 and 50. 25% were Democrats, 28% Republicans, 10% Independent or other parties, and 37% had no political affiliation and/or do not vote.

“Results of the study confirm what we already knew: When it comes to love, singles do not disqualify potential mates just because they do not share the same political beliefs,” states Dan Levine, Managing Director of iMatchup.com. “Love really does conquer all—even politics.”
