As a little girl I always imagined my love life to be a fairytale romance when I met my Prince Charming. Now that I have grown up I still seem to cling to my fantasies while I am treading in a pond of frogs. However it seems that I am not alone in the pond...I received so many emails from members this week that have dealt with or who are in the process of dealing with mates that are like Mr. Neurotic. About 90% of these emails told me to dump him; which is what I agreed with...until I received an email from another man who calls himself Mr. Neurotic also. This man shed some light on a delicate situation from an insider's perspective, as he too is a recently separated man with a young child. This email made it all so clear in only a few sentences "It is pretty hard for us single fathers to get back into the dating scene when your pick up line is " I am recently separated with children, would you like to go out?" you know what I mean? It's hard for us too. So the only advice I can give you is hear him out, he might be a dude who just gave his heart to the wrong person, he shouldn't be punished for being a real man. By that I mean holding down his responsibility as a father".
I am off to meet Mr. Neurotic this evening for drinks and conversation. I am going to ask him all the tough questions that you have suggested; the most important of all being why he lied to me and if he loves his son then why no mention of him until now? If his character as a father is strong that will in my mind override the lies to me...if he did this for his son. I have never dated anyone who has been married before or has a child for that matter. I am not sure if I am ready to take on that role and the responsibilities that come with it. I want to look after my needs and my mates' needs...I am not sure I can look after a child's needs at this point in my life.
