| Advice for the lovelorn. (For confidentiality purposes, names in the following letters have been changed.) Q. Dear Rosie, I have a great life including a family that I absolutely love. My problem is that they are very old world and are controlling. It has been tradition in my family even my parents did it that I have an arranged marriage. I've known about this my entire life and part of me was even looking forward to it. That is until I met the most amazing man on iMatchup and fallen in love. It may sound crazy to others but we have had to hide our relationship over the last year. I live at home still and I met him here when a friend suggested this would be a way to meet new people of other cultures besides my own. I did and now we are in love and want to marry. His family accepts me but we don't know how to tell my family. I don't want to lose my family or the man I love. Thanks, New World Love A. Dear New World Love, This will be difficult but you can and need to do this. My suggestion to you would be to first speak to your parents yourself about the situation and be open and honest with them. Let them know that you have fallen in love with a wonderful man and that he cares for you just as much and that you would like to marry with their blessing. Once that discussion has happened advise your parents that you would like for you all to meet before they make any decision. You do have to be prepared for the worst that they will not accept him or you because of this however if this does occur you may seek out family counseling. Let your parents know also that you want to uphold the old world traditions with some of the new world traditions. Good Luck and Keep Me Posted! Rosie, The Love Vixen If you have a question on life or love send your thoughts to AskUs@iMatchup.com. |
